Bulls FC Academy 4-4 NWS Spirit FC
An eight-goal thriller at Northbridge Oval saw Bulls FC Academy and NWS Spirit split the points in a dramatic 4-4 draw.
Amber Luchtmeijer opened the scoring after only three minutes, pouncing on a spilt ball. Lara Gooch then equalised for Spirit with a well-executed shot from the edge of the area.
Shortly after, the Bulls restored their lead through Luchtmeijer again, in similar fashion to the first taking advantage of a loose ball inside the six-yard box. Spirit had the chance to equalise from the spot just before the break but Ella Abdul Massih blasted the ball over the bar.
Spirit were given another penalty minutes after the break, this time Skye Halmarick made no mistake from the spot. Abdul Massih made up for the missed penalty, showing fine skill before finding the back of the net with a well struck effort.
It took only two minutes for the Bulls to respond themselves this time, Luchtmeijer rounding off her hat trick to make it 3-3. Halmarick stepped up again for the visitors though, making it 4-3 with just over 10 minutes to go.
There was one final twist in the game though as Liz Grey found a stoppage time equaliser, getting on the end of an excellent Sarah Hunter cross, heading expertly into the bottom corner.
Macarthur Rams 1-2 APIA Leichhardt FC
APIA Leichhardt came away with an important win away from home on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Macarthur Rams 2-1 at Lynwood Park.
Susan Phonsongkham found an early goal for the visitors before Ash Letta doubled her teams advantage with a neat finish inside the box 10 minutes before the break.
The home side halved the deficit just after the break, Amelia Cassar dancing through the APIA defence before slipping in Keira Bobbin who found the back of the net.
That would be that though as APIA held on for all three points.
Football NSW would like to send its well wishes to Macarthur Rams’ Marcella Santos who suffered an injury during the clash. Our thoughts are with the star midfielder.
Illawarra Stingrays 1 v UNSW FC 3
UNSW FC continued their magnificent run of results, defeating the Illawarra Stingrays 3-1.
Chloe Smith opened the scoring with not everyone having taken their seats yet, after only 13 seconds on the clock. 15 minutes later the home side responded, Sophia Christopherson getting a touch on a shot that was going wide, wrong footing Erin Naylor.
10 minutes from half time UNSW was back in front, Aya Yamahata basting home after a corner wasn’t cleaned by the Stingrays.
The points were made safe on the hour mark, again the Stingrays falling asleep at a corner, Demi Koulizakis rising highest and heading home to make it 3-1
Gladesville Ravens 6-0 Western City Rangers
It was one way traffic at Christie Park on Sunday afternoon as the Gladesville Ravens ran out 6-0 winner over the Western City Rangers.
Miku Sunaga opened the scoring early with a lovely header, before Leena Khamis completed a first half hat-trick to make it 4-0. Tapping home at the back post for her first, the second a composed finish and the hat trick sealer similar to the first.
Gisella Pipino then headed in the fifth after the break before Khamis got herself another from the spot to make it 6-0 and round off the scoring.
WSW 3-2 Hills United
3pm, Sunday 19 April – Macedonia Park
The Western Sydney Wanderers came from behind to take all three points against Hills United with Alyssa Ng Saad the star of the show in a 3-2 win.
For the second consecutive week, Hills United got off to an early lead, this time Mary Stanic-Foody scoring a spectacular goal more than 30 metres out.
Ng Saad had her first of the night just before the break with a tap in, and then had her second two minutes after half time to put the home side in front.
The striker had her hat trick minutes later with the pick of her goals, the ball going in off the underside of the bar.
Hills grabbed what would be a consolation in the end, Aya Seino finding the back of the net to make it 3-2.
Sydny University 2-3 Sydney Olympic
Sydney Olympic took the points in their clash against Sydney University, winning 3-2 on Sunday evening.
Giuliana Nicholas opened the scoring mid-way through the first half before Baxter Thew doubled Olympic’s lead.
Poppy Tay reacted best after a swift counter from the home side, tapping the ball home after a scramble in the six-yard box. Things went from bad to worse for Olympic a minute or so later, Jaya Bowman seeing red for a last player challenge.
It was some response from Olympic though, Morgan Witz scoring one of the goals of the night with a stunning strike into the top corner to make it 3-1. Olympic would score again, this time unfortunately for them, Baxter Thew sliding and tapping the ball over the line for a final 3-2 score line.
