NWS Spirit v Newcastle Jets at Christie Park, Saturday 3pm – POSTPONED DUE TO HEAT

The action kicks off on Saturday afternoon at Christie Park as the NWS Spirit host the Newcastle Jets.

Two teams that suffered defeats in round one will be keen to score their first points of 2025.

Spirit were well in the game against UNSW until the final 10 minutes of the match, capitulating late on as they pressed for an equaliser.

Erin Pridmore exited the field early and could be a question mark for this week, while Skye Halmarick showed her talent, scoring a well taken goal.

The Jets also went down, losing to the Northern Tigers late in their game at Lake Macquarie.

With India Breier in the squad, she will add attacking threat to the Jets squad who will come up against a fellow young squad.

Northern Tigers v Sydney University at North Turramurra, Saturday 6:30pm

At North Turramurra Rec Area, the Northern Tigers welcome Sydney University in the second game of Saturday afternoon.

Chris Wood’s team got off to the perfect start with a tight and tough away win at the Newcastle Jets last week.

It was also a dream debut for American Haley Johnson who has shown she will be a danger to all opposition goalkeepers, scoring a brace.

Uni started the season with defeat, going down to the Illawarra Stingrays on the south coast.

It’s a second consecutive difficult away trip for the Students and Oz Rowley will have the week to prepare his side for this one.

Mt Druitt Town Rangers v Illawarra Stingrays at Popondetta Park, Sunday 7pm

The Mt Druitt Town Rangers take on the Illawarra Stingrays on Sunday afternoon at Popondetta Park.

The Rangers started life in the top tier in style with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bulls FC Academy.

Rosie Galea marked her return to the NPL with a goal and Ben Gough would have been happy with that, as well as keeping a clean sheet.

The Stingrays also won their first game of the season on Sunday, making things difficult in the end with a 2-1 win over Sydney University.

Getting points here for the Stingrays on a tough away trip would set them up well and make somewhat of a statement.

Macarthur Rams v Manly United at Cromer Park, Sunday 7pm

On Sunday afternoon, Manly United face off against the Macarthur Rams at Cromer Park.

Manly got their season off to an incredible start, defeating the WSW 5-1 away from home.

Tom Hopley’s team raced off to a 4-1 lead at the break and added a fifth in the second half for good measure.

They looked good, with all their key players also getting themselves on the scoresheet.

A new look Rams outfit lined up in the grand final rematch and in patches showed they will grow and improve as the season progresses.

Matilda Dias looked dangerous as did Claire Corbett when she came off the bench.

It will also be encouraging for ic Guzman having Amalia Plummer complete 45 minutes on her first competitive game back following an ACL injury.

Western Sydney Wanderers v Sydney Olympic at Wanderers Football Park, Sunday 7pm – MOTR

The Match of the Round takes us to Wanderers Football Park as the Western Sydney Wanderers host Sydney Olympic.

It was a disappointing start to the season for the WSW, going down heavily against Manly United last weekend.

A sloe start cost them dearly and they will need to ensure that they improve in the facet of the game.

On a positive note, Anika Stajcic continued ger good goal scoring form pre-season, finding the back of the net again.

Sydney Olympic started their season with a point, scoring late on against the Ravens for a 1-1 draw.

Brianna Clarke saved a penalty in that one to keep her team in the game, while Olivia Lysiak showed why there is a bit of hype about her, scoring Olympic’s equaliser.

It won’t be an easy trip for the side from Belmore but with the Wanderers losing so heavily, they may try and take advantage early in this one.

APIA Leichhardt v Gladesville Ravens at Lambert Park, Sunday 5pm

APIA Leichhardt return to Lambert Park on Sunday afternoon as they entertain the Gladesville Ravens.

The home team got their season off to a good start with a solid 2-0 victory over last year’s Champions Macarthur Rams.

There were debuts for Christina Kiceec, Mel Caceres, Hannah McNulty and Aurelia Collins on the weekend with the former Northern Tigers captain McNulty getting ger first minutes in over a month.

Ash Crofts made a flying start to the season with a brace and will be keen to continue her goalscoring form this week.

The Ravens drew their round one game against Sydney Olympic but are perhaps disappointed they didn’t take all three.

UNSW FC v Bulls FC Academy at The Village Green, Sunday 7pm

UNSW take on the Bulls FC Academy on Sunday afternoon at The Village Green.

It took Uni a bit of time to break NWS Spirit down last weekend but in the end recorded a comprehensive victory.

Hat-trick hero Chloe Smith couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season, scoring three of her team’s five goals and she’ll look to continue her scoring run.

The Bulls went down by the odd-goal but were reduced to 10 for more than an hour of the game.

Their second away trip in as many games where they face another tough opponent at a difficult place to go and get points.
