Are you used to seeing Sarah Morgan’s name yet? Well you should be, with the NWS Spirit central midfielder securing four straight NPL NSW Women’s Team of The Week selections.
The Spirit FC star has absolutely bossed the midfield so far this season and has been an integral part of an improved outfit coming out of Christie Park.
Morgan has put down her eye-catching performances to hard work in the off-season along with some overseas experience.
“I’ve spent some time overseas training with a few clubs in the off-season that has allowed me to come into the NPL NSW Women’s competition with new experiences,” Morgan said.
“I believe I have more of an understanding of the player I want to be and to be able to showcase that every week is just amazing.
“The team around me this year also allows me to have a free flowing role in the midfield, this has given me confidence each week to go forward knowing I have them to support me.
“I know what my goal is this season and I know what I want, knowing that every game is beneficial for my goals moving towards what I want to achieve.”
Morgan swapped the yellow and blue of Sydney University for the yellow of Spirit in the off season and has not looked backed.
“This is my first season at Spirit after spending many incredible years at Sydney University,” said the Spirit midfielder.
“Since coming in, the feeling amongst the squad has been positive and confident knowing we will be competitive in every game throughout the season.”
Morgan has been fortunate to have a mentor like head coach Tiana Gauci who has helped her develop as a footballer.
“Tiana has been great contributing to my football journey at Sydney Uni and Perth Glory”, Morgan said.
“She has continuously backed me as a player and has allowed me to play to my full potential.
“She has also done a great job to create an amazing team environment here at Spirit.”
Over the coming weeks, the Spirit team will be strengthened by a number of Liberty A-League players, including the likes of Sophie Harding and former teammate at Sydney University, 2022 NPL NSW Women’s Player of the Year Rola Badawiya.
“Having the A-League players joining us very soon is exciting not only for Spirit but the overall competition,” said Morgan.
“We have some quality players coming back in to compliment the rest of the squad.
“Playing again with a player like Rola is very exciting, she impacted the Syd Uni squad and have no doubt she will do the same here.”
After a few years without finals football, this season has started well for Spirit and if they can continue their form, will almost certainly find itself fighting for a finals place, something Morgan believes the team can accomplish.
“The NPL NSW Women’s competition is competitive but we believe we have what it takes to be in the finals and go all the way, “ stated Morgan.
“We all have finals in the back of our minds and now 8 rounds in, we know that we are good enough and it is definitely a goal we can achieve.”
