Round 18 – NPL NSW Women’s Preview
Sydney University is back on top of the NPL NSW Women’s competition with four teams in close proximity to pounce if they slip up.
Blacktown Spartans v Sydney University
At Blacktown Football Park, Sydney University will be looking to hold onto first place as they travel to the tricky Blacktown Spartans.
Uni took the spoils in their last match against the Stingrays and put themselves in pole position to take the premiership.
With only five more steps to take, they cannot afford any slip ups.
The Spartans showed great character and resolve to stay in the match with Manly last week, continuously coming back and fighting to the final whistle.
They could spring a surprise here if they come to play.
NWS Koalas v Sutherland Shire
Christie Park sees the North West Sydney Koalas and Sutherland Shite clash.
The Koalas will be somewhat downhearted, knowing they could have taken all three points from their match last week.
The result puts them in a position where they cannot drop any points as the season draws to a close and hope that those in front drop points.
There were great celebrations in the Sutherland change room last Sunday as the team finally registered their first win o the season.
They’ll take this confidence forward and hope to take as many points as possible in the remaining games.
Illawarra Stingrays v Macarthur Rams
The Illawarra Stingrays and Macarthur Rams clash in a blockbuster at JJ Kelly park on Sunday.
It was a disappointing defeat for the Stingrays last week that saw them lose top spot.
A loss will almost certainly push them out of the race for the premiership.
The same goes for Macarthur who are also desperate for three points to run down the leading University side.
The Rams are in good form, undefeated in eight and peaking at the right time.
Northern Tigers v Bankstown City
At North Turramurra Recreational Area, the Northern Tigers host Bankstown City.
The Tigers recorded a large win last week, their biggest of the season and first in eight matches.
They’ll look to try and move higher up the ladder with another victory.
Bankstown are on a dismal run, losing five in a row and need to improve to keep their status in the top flight.
North Shore Mariners v Emerging Jets
The North Shore Mariners and Emerging Jets clash on Sunday night at Northbridge Oval.
It’s been a good couple weeks for the Mariners as they look to climb up the ladder.
Two games without defeat has lifted confidence for the Mariners and they’ll look to finish the season as strong as possible.
It was a tough result to take for the Jets last week, going down 8-0 to the Tigers.
An improvement is needed against the Mariners to prevent a similar result.
Football NSW Institute v Manly United to be played on the 1st of August
