UNSW FC kept their finals hopes alive with a hard fought 2-1 victory over Sydney University SFC at Sydney Uni Football Ground on Sunday night.

Trudy Camilleri opened the scoring for UNSW just after 20 minutes, only for Talia Kapetanelis to equalise 10 minutes later for the home side.

On the stroke of half time though, Chloe Smith scored her first league goal in nine games which would end up being the winner.

Inside the opening 10 minutes, UNSW went close with consecutive corners, first Sofia Fante tipping over the bar, the second University just managing to clear their lines.

A good low cross from Allira Toby to the far post on 15 minutes found Abbey Leon at the far post but her effort sailed just over the bar.

Moments later Poppy Tay went close for Uni, her well struck effort from the right was saved by Akala Howell in style.

The dead lock was broken on 23 minutes in fine style by Camilleri.

Skipping passed two markers, Camilleri then created space and took a shot from 25 yards out, beating Fante with an excellent shot.

10 minutes later and scores were level.

Talia Kapetanelis showed that she didn’t just need that lethal left foot to score goals, rising highest from a corner to head home a powerful header beyond Howell, giving the UNSW keeper no chance.

On the stroke of half time UNSW scored a fabulous team goal.

Camilleri slipped in Smith who rounded off the fine move, slotting the ball beyond the on rushing Fante.

They almost doubled their lead on the hour mark, Toby found Leixa Puxty in space, shooting just over the bar from the left.

UNSW continued to attack and Angelique Hristodoulou, who was having a fantastic game, played in Annalise Rasmussen with the powerful attacker shooting just over.

Smith was next to go close after another great attack by UNSW, Puxty crossing for the striker who couldn’t connect with the ball.

Another substitute had a good attempt for UNSW, Georgia Plessas in a good position but Fante holding onto the ball.

The home side pushed hard for an equaliser late but weren’t able to break down the UNSW defence.
