The Western Sydney Wanderers put the Newcastle Jets to the sword on Sunday evening at Wanderers Football Park securing a 5-0 victory.

After five straight defeats, it was the perfect tonic for Jamie Dib’s team, snapping their poor run of form.

For the Jets, it makes it four defeats in a row and worryingly, 20 goals conceded over that period.

Miriam Zumaya and Amy Barker both scored a brace each, while Olivia Vanderlaan came off the bench to round off the scoring.

The home side almost scored inside the first 10 seconds, Talia Younis picking up the ball outside the area and trying to catch Ally Boertje out, her effort going just over the bar.

It took only six minutes though for the Wanderers to go in front.

The ball was sprayed left to Zumaya who took a touch inside the area before slotting the ball away at the near post.

On 10 minutes the Jets had their first chance through Annika Driscoll, showing good strength to cut inside the box, sending her effort just wide.

Five minutes later it was almost two, Alyssa McKenzie did well to create some pace before forcing Boertje into a save.

From the resulting corner, Boertje was again called into action, this time making a fantastic fingertip save from Zumaya.

Moments later though, the home side had their second.

Zumaya grabbing her brace after the Jets keeper spilled the ball, the winger tapping the ball home.

The Jets went close again, this time Emma Dundas shooting just wide of the target.

Anika Stajcic should have made it three on 25 minutes, breaking through one on one, striking the post with her placed effort.

The Jets started the second half better and went close 10 minutes into the second half, Layla Sharpe picking up a pass from Navah Crofton, attempting a chip over Jasmin Selva, the ball going just over the bar.

Just as the Jets were improving, the Wanderers extended their advantage.

The visitors made an error in playing out from the back, Barker taking full advantage and burying the ball into the back of the net.

Younis had consecutive effort that were inches away from the goal, Boertje making an excellent save in one instance.

With 10 minutes remaining it was 4-0.

Younis turned provider with a delightful cross into the area, Barker raising highest and heading beyond Boertje.

Barker could have had her hat trick two minutes later, Stajcic laying the ball off for her, the midfielder sending her effort wide of the target.

The 5-0 scoreline was then wrapped up in the 90th minute as Barker made a fine run through midfield, sliding in a pass for substitute Christa Oliva, cutting the ball back for Vanderlaan who tapped it home.
