Round 5 Preview – PS4 NPL NSW Women’s
Sydney University have taken an outright lead on the PlayStation®4 NPL NSW Women’s ladder with a cluster of teams in close pursuit.
NWS Koalas v FNSW Institute
The North West Sydney Koalas welcome the Football NSW Institute at Els Hall Park on Sunday afternoon.
Stephen Peters’ team finally recorded their first win of the season last week, defeating a previously undefeated Macarthur Rams side.
His side showed great character to come from behind and take all three points, something he will hope they can build from.
A fit Tara Andrews gives this team another dimension and with the striker working her way back into the team, the Koalas will only continue to improve.
It was defeat number one of the season for the Institute last week but it was against the competition favourites.
Craig Foster will ensure his side refocuses and gets back on track following their heavy defeat last week.
One thing is for sure though, they’re a side that can score goals.
Illawarra Stingrays v Northern Tigers
The Illawarra Stignrays return to JJ Kelly park on Sunday as they host the Northern Tigers.
Consistency is the key for Illawarra and if they can continue on from last week’s fantastic win they will be moving in the right direction.
With quality all over the park, getting and then keeping their players fit will be important for the South Coast side.
After two consecutive draws, the new team to the competition recorded their first win on Sunday afternoon.
It’s been a fantastic start for Pat O’Sullivan’s side and if they can keep this going, they’re in for a good season.
Emerging Jets v Macarthur Rams
At Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facitility the Emerging jets take on the Macarthur Rams.
The Jets are the only remaining team to not register any points in the first four matches of the season.
They’ll be desperate to pick up something on Sunday.
Norm Boardman wasn’t pleased after his side let a half time lead slip at the weekend and would sure have made that known.
Renee Rollason could make her return to the team this week and would add further experience to a team already boasting names such as Teresa Polias, Kylie Ledbrook and Leena Khamis.
Sydney University v Manly United
Sydney University Football Ground will see the match of the round between Sydney University and Manly United.
Following their convincing win over the Institute, Heather Garriock’s team has pushed themselves to the top of the table.
Garriock will be aware of the threat the Manly team pose but will have high confidence that her team can get the job done.
United were just as clinical as their opponents on Sunday with five different players getting on the scoresheet.
If Remy Siemsen is on form and her team mates follow her lead, we could be in for an upset on Sunday afternoon.
North Shore Mariners v Blacktown Spartans
At Northbridge Oval on Sunday afternoon, the North Shore Mariners host the Blacktown Spartans.
These two come into this game both having tasted defeat last week.
It was a tough result to take for the Mariners, going down 5-0 in a convincing loss in the derby to Manly United.
For the Spartans, it was defeat as well but in a five goal thriller, going down 3-2 at home.
Both sides will be eager to bounce back this week and move back into the top four.
