Round 11 Review – PS4 NPL NSW Women’s
The battle for finals places is heating up in the PlayStation®4 NPL NSW Women’s competition.
Round 11 sent a few statements and shocks across the league.
Macarthur Rams 3-0 Blacktown Spartans
The Macarthur Rams stayed at the top of the league following a workmanlike victory on Sunday, taking out the Blacktown Spartans 3-0 at Lynwood Park.
Panayiota Petratos, Kristina Maksuti and Kylie Ledbrook all found the back of the net for Norm Boardman’s side.
The first chance of the game almost lead to the first goal of the match on 15 minutes.
Cassidy Chidgey looked to get onto the end of through ball but was met the out rushing Shamiran Khamis.
Khamis could only force the striker wide as she crossed for Eliza Ammendolia who was blocked at the final moment by a Rams defender.
Olivia Price then showed some individual brilliance on 22 minutes, juggling the ball over her defender and volleying just wide.
Only two minutes later though, the home team had the lead from their first chance.
The experienced Leena Khamis showed fantastic vision to pick out Panayiota Petratos on the right wing.
New signing Petratos showed great composure to blast the ball beyond Trudy Burke.
On 27 minutes the home side doubled their advantage.
An unmarked Kristina Maksuti stormed into the box late to meet the ball and head it beyond Burke from a corner to make it 2-0.
Kylie Ledbrook then almost made it three, catching the whole Spartans team off guard with a quick free kick, only for Burke to make a fine save.
Ledbrook was at it again on 35 minutes, showing great skill to easily beat her defender but then shooting inches wide.
Gabrielle Marzano then found herself with acres of space and only Khamis to beat but the Rams keeper stood tall and saved well only minutes before the break.
The Spartans started the second half well and again had the first chance through Chidgey but Khamis saved well.
Ledbrook again almost caught everyone by surprise, going for goal from a corner, only for the ball to hit the bar and go over.
In the 59th minute Diyana Lusic had a crack from some distance but again Khamis was upto the task, saving well.
But three minutes later, Kylie Ledbrook finally got her goal.
Some silky skills from the veteran saw her create enough space to unleash a powerful low shot that gave Burke no chance.
With 13 minutes remaining the Spartans almost got themselves back in the match.
Patty Charalambous played in Chidgey but again Khamis was quick off her line to dive at the feet of the Spartans striker.
Maksuti could’ve had her second in the 88th minute but her header went wide of the target.
Trudy Burke made a great save in stoppage time after a deflected cross almost found it’s way into the back of the net.
