Round 10 Preview – NPL Women’s NSW

There is a new leader of the National Premier Leagues Women’s NSW competition ahead of round 10 action.
Only five points separates the top five teams, all stacking their case for Premiership credentials.
UNSW FC v Macarthur Rams
2:45pm, Saturday 9 May – The Village Green
UNSW FC enter this matchup in strong form, firmly positioned at the top of the table, yet to lose a game in 2026. Their efficiency in front of goal has allowed them to turn dominance into results. At home, they’ll be confident of continuing that momentum.
Macarthur Rams are still finding their rhythm this season, with a refreshed squad showing glimpses of promise but lacking consistency. The additions of Sofia Fante in goals and Amelia Cassar in midfield, this squad is starting to look stronger.
The key battle will be whether the Rams can disrupt UNSW’s structured build-up and turn the game into a more open contest. If UNSW settle early, they should control proceedings, but if Macarthur can stay organised and take their chances, they could push this closer than expected.
Northern Tigers v Sydney Olympic
6:30pm, Saturday 9 May – NTRA
A tight mid-table battle awaits as Northern Tigers host Sydney Olympic, with both sides looking to climb the ladder.
The Tigers sit just ahead in the standings and will see this as an opportunity to strengthen their position against a direct rival and stay close to finals contention. Inconsistent results have cost the Tigers being close to the leading pack.
Northern Tigers have shown they can match it with strong opposition this season, but inconsistency has held them back from pushing higher. A loss for Olympic and they could find themselves 13 points from fourth place.
Illawarra Stingrays v Manly United
3pm, Sunday 10 May – The Pond
A challenging test awaits Illawarra Stingrays as they host a top-half Manly United side looking to stay in the finals mix.
Illawarra have shown signs of improvement in recent weeks, picking up two draws and a win in their last three starts. They’ve been competitive in patches, yet turning those performances into results has proven difficult, particularly against stronger opposition.
Manly United, meanwhile, have been more dangerous going forward, regularly finding the net but also involved in high-scoring, open contests. Their attacking threat gives them an edge, though defensive lapses have prevented them from building sustained momentum.
Gladesville Ravens v APIA Leichhardt FC
3:10pm, Sunday 10 May – Christie Park
A tough assignment awaits Gladesville Ravens as they host second places APIA Leichhardt, who have been one of the benchmark teams this season.
Gladesville showed the quality they possess with a strong performance and victory last week against the Macarthur Rams, veteran Leena Khamis winding back the years. They’ll need to put up back to back performances to prove a point to the rest of the competition in this one.
APIA, meanwhile, have been dominant throughout the season, but suffered their first defeat of 2026 last weekend. Brad Attard will be expectant that his side will bounce straight back and keep up the battle for the Premiership.
Sydney University v Bulls FC Academy
5pm, Sunday 10 May – Sydney Uni Football Ground
A massive clash headlines this round as Sydney University take on Bulls FC Academy in what shapes as one of the most evenly matched contests of the weekend. With both sides firmly in the finals mix, this is a chance to gain a crucial edge over a direct rival.
Sydney University come into the match full of confidence after a dominant 6-0 win last round, showcasing their attacking quality and ability to control games. That result underlines their momentum and suggests they’re building nicely as the season progresses.
Bulls FC Academy, the reigning champions, continue to set a high standard and have proven they can match it with the best sides in the competition. Their recent win over APIA highlights both their resilience and attacking threat, reinforcing why they remain a genuine title contender.
Expect a high-quality, competitive encounter. Sydney Uni’s form gives them confidence, but the Bulls’ experience and big-game pedigree make them a tough opponent, this one could come down to small moments.
WSW v NWS Spirit FC
5pm, Sunday 10 May – Wanderers Football Park
A mismatch on paper sees Western Sydney Wanderers take on NWS Spirit, with the hosts looking to cement their place in the top four while Spirit search for a breakthrough result.
The Wanderers have taken a big step forward this season, building on last year’s foundations with a more settled squad and added experience. Their attacking intent and growing cohesion have made them a genuine contender, and they’ll expect to control this contest, especially on home turf.
In contrast, NWS Spirit have endured a difficult start, sitting at the bottom of the ladder and still chasing their first points. Defensive discipline and resilience have been key issues, though there remains urgency within the group to turn performances into results.
Western City Rangers v Hills United
5pm, Sunday 10 May – Popondetta Park
A crucial clash at the bottom end of the ladder sees Western City Rangers take on Hills United, with both sides desperate for points to create separation from the lower spots.
Western City Rangers have found this season challenging, struggling to turn performances into results and often conceding at key moments. Still, playing at home gives them an opportunity to reset and target a winnable fixture against a direct rival.
Hills United sit just above them, but they too have found it difficult to build momentum. Their ability to stay competitive in matches gives them a slight edge, though they’ll need to be more clinical to capitalise on chances.
With both teams evenly matched and low on confidence, this shapes as a tight, scrappy contest. The side that handles the pressure better and takes their opportunities is likely to come away with a valuable three points
