Western City Rangers FC produced a dominant attacking display to claim their first win of the season, thrashing NWS Spirit FC 5–1 at Popondetta Park on Sunday afternoon.

The emphatic result also marked a milestone moment for Rangers coach Milan Jovanovic, who celebrated his maiden victory in charge as his side delivered an energetic and clinical performance from start to finish.

The hosts could not have asked for a better start, breaking the deadlock inside the opening minute. A clever backheel from Trudy Camilleri unlocked the Spirit defence and found Charlotte-Paige Jonsson in space on the flank. Jonsson delivered a perfectly weighted cross into the box where Seara arrived to calmly tap home and give the Rangers an immediate 1–0 lead.

Buoyed by the electric start, the Rangers continued to press forward and dominate possession. Their attacking intent paid off again in the 15th minute when Roukayah Al Fararjeh burst down the right wing before squaring the ball to Camilleri, who finished comfortably to double the home side’s advantage.

Spirit attempted to respond and nearly found a foothold in the contest when Mikaela Gavranic cut in from the left and fired a shot toward the far post, but her effort drifted narrowly wide.

The Rangers, however, remained firmly in control and extended their lead on the half-hour mark. Jakeelie Hook was afforded too much space outside the penalty area and punished the visitors with a superb left-footed strike that flew into the back of the net to make it 3–0.

To their credit, Spirit refused to fold and managed to pull a goal back just five minutes later. Charlotte Finnerty rose highest from a corner and powered a header home to give the visitors a lifeline heading into the break.

Spirit nearly closed the gap further before halftime when Frankie Morrow forced Rangers goalkeeper Renee Krstanovska into a sharp save, ensuring the hosts carried a two-goal cushion into the interval.

The Rangers resumed the second half with the same attacking intent and effectively sealed the contest ten minutes after the restart. Seara turned provider this time, delivering a delightful cross from the right that found Camilleri inside the box. The forward took a superb first touch before rounding the goalkeeper and finishing emphatically to restore the three-goal lead at 4–1.

Spirit continued to push forward in search of a way back into the match, with Morrow again proving dangerous as she weaved through midfield to create space for a shot, only to see her effort curl just wide.

Any hopes of a comeback were extinguished in spectacular fashion in the 72nd minute. Seara collected a loose ball on the right flank and unleashed a stunning strike from more than 25 metres out, the shot rocketing into the top corner to cap a brilliant individual performance and make it 5–1.

The spectacular goal proved the perfect finishing touch to a commanding Rangers display as the home side closed out the match comfortably to record their first victory of the campaign in style.
