Stingrays Sharpshooter Siobhan Edwards continues to impress

With nine goals in just 11 games this National Premier Leagues Women’s NSW season, Football NSW spoke to Illawarra Stingrays star Siobhan Edwards on her form and season so far.
Edwards is entering her second season at Stingrays, a club she expresses great admiration for their quality on and off the field.
“This is my second year at Stingrays and I love it,” she said.
“The team has stayed pretty consistent from last year with only a few new additions, which means we have been able to grow and progress together over two years.
“Being the only female-only club in the league is unique as the club’s whole focus is on women’s football and the growth of women’s football on the South Coast.
“From JDL (Junior Development Leagues) to seniors, the support and community is unmatched.”
After finishing third on the ladder last season, the Stingrays have enjoyed a similarly profitable 2025 so far, currently sitting second, just two points off top spot.
“This season has been interesting,” said Edwards.
“We have had a lot of good results and some tough battles, but overall it has been a huge squad effort.
“Lots of players are stepping up and really making their mark in the team.
“Our focus has been one training session and one game at a time, looking to build on consistency each week.”
And Edwards has set the benchmark for consistency, constantly threatening the opposition with her goalscoring prowess.
With nine for the season – including four in her last three games – it’s been a campaign to remember for Stingray’s young star.
“This season has been exciting for me,” she said.
“It’s always a positive to get your name on the scoresheet, but I think the thing that stands out most for me is the team build-up and contribution in the goals.
“I wouldn’t be scoring without the players and coaches around me.
“It’s a huge team effort.”
Edwards’ last goals came in a statement 3-0 win over third-placed Manly United, with the 22-year-old netting two sensational strikes from range.
“The Manly game was such a big feat for the team,” said Edwards on the match.
“After our loss to Tigers we narrowly beat (Macarthur) Rams but played some good football and then followed that with a comeback against UNSW, so a solid win was something we were looking for and working towards.
“I think in the next few weeks, with all of the changes in the squads happening, those three points and our form will be important in keeping us in the top four.”
Looking forward, Illawarra Stingrays will face off against APIA Leichhardt this weekend in a rematch of 2024’s semi-final, as Edwards’ team look to fend off another top-four rival and continue to push for top spot.
“This weekend will be really exciting,” Edwards said when asked about the game.
“It is always fun travelling and playing at Lambert Park. the atmosphere and the football is always so competitive which we love.
“I think we will just be looking for consistency again this weekend.
“We will look to play our brand of football and hopefully come home with some points.”
