The sky’s the limit for Bulls FC Academy young gun Petria Phillips

With three match winning goals in her last two matches, Bulls FC Academy star Petria Phillips spoke to Football NSW about her stunning form, her season so far as well as looking ahead to their clash against Sydney Olympic FC this Sunday.
Bulls FC Academy have had young Phillips to thank for two of their three wins gained so far this season, with the 18-year-old striker scoring twice in a 3-1 win over the Western Sydney Wanderers and the solitary goal in a 1-0 victory over Manly United last weekend.
“It feels amazing to win those crucial games and elevate the team on the ladder,” when asked about the victories and her role in them.
“Although these valuable wins cannot be credited to me, praise should be on all the Bulls girls and coach Marty (Garces) for the hard work and heart we have displayed.”
The goals are Phillips’ first three of the season, and it looks as though she’s coming into form just as the season is beginning to heat up.
When asked about what has helped her find her groove in the NPL Women’s NSW competition, Phillips gave an intelligent, self-reflective answer.
“I think understanding being hard on myself and applying self-criticism was doing more harm than good,” she said.
“Trusting myself and having confidence that my moment will come has allowed me to play with passion and ease.”
Phillips’ goals have been crucial in pushing the Bulls up the ladder, and are now ninth, after a slow start to the season had them in a difficult situation towards the bottom on the table.
Reflecting on the campaign so far, Phillips said, “Personally, it was a challenging start to the season but I have moved forward in a positive direction.
“The teams season has started slow but progressed well as we have formed good chemistry and appreciate for one another.
“We’re looking to collect more points and climb up the ladder with the momentum we have.”
Their next fixture will see them take on bottom of the ladder Sydney Olympic in an exciting fixture away from home, as Bulls look to continue the strong momentum and make it three wins in a row.
“Facing Olympic this week will be a good test for us to continue playing our style of football,” she said.
“I just need to play my game, focus on what I can control and let go of what I can’t.”
Meanwhile, when asked about her goals for the future, Phillips gave a characteristically humble answer.
“My main goals are to continue improving and advancing my game, as well as having the opportunity to play at a higher level.”
