Macarthur Rams head coach Stephen Peters is looking to secure his third straight Championship trophy on Saturday afternoon at CommBank Stadium in the National Premier Leagues Women’s NSW Grand Final.
People dream to take part in one Grand Final in their life and if they are lucky enough, win it, but Peters is on some run and looking to complete the three-peat.
“Unbelievable achievement by everyone, to play in one grand final is a great achievement but to play in three in row is just special and we will certainly enjoy the opportunity,” said the Rams head coach.
Not only are the Rams looking to make it three in a row but also to do the double in 2024 having secured the Premiership a couple weeks ago also.
“For me it was great to lift the Premiership, for the players and the coaching team unbelievable for them to finally capture that feeling of finishing top of the league.”
This team will be considered one of the greatest to grace the game in NSW and Peters has created somewhat of a legacy, we asked him a simple question, how?
“People, it’s all about the people we have had come through these doors for the last four years, players, coaches, board members etc. it’s been a wonderful journey and something I will cherish for the rest of my coaching life,” said Peters.
When Stephen Peters walks out onto CommBank Stadium on Saturday, it will be the final time he does so as the Macarthur Rams’ head coach and emotions will be high.
“I haven’t allowed myself to think about that too much, there’s still a job to do and we will stay focused on the task at hand,” Peters said.
“The overall feeling is one of pride, I’m proud of everything we have achieved as a team and club, we have a special group of players and it’s something I will always cherish.”
Over the last few years, APIA Leichhardt has grown as one of the Rams’ fiercest competitors and Peters only has words of praise for his opponents.
“We have a fantastic rivalry with APIA and it’s been a tremendous run of three years coming up against them in big games.
“Matteo (Maiorana -APIA GM) has done a wonderful job building that club and it’s shown with their ongoing success.
“We look forward to coming up against them for another trophy this season, Brad and his team have done a great job this season.”
Peters expects a hungry opponent on Saturday who will look to bounce back after losing the Premiership to the Rams on the final day of the season only a couple weeks ago.
“APIA will want to turn the tide from two weeks ago, I think that’s pretty clear so we have to be ready for that.
“For us, we want to enjoy the experience, prepare in the best way we can, play the football we know we are capable of and produce a performance worthy of lifting the championship.”
