Lobo dreams of Championship glory with Rams

After not having the opportunity to lift the National Premier Leagues Women’s NSW Championship trophy with her teammates in 2024, Maya Lobo will get that chance on Saturday at CommBank Stadium.

With Liberty A-League commitments with the Central Coast Mariners last season, Lobo was unable to take part in the Grand Final against Bulls FC Academy.

“Missing out on last year’s grand final was quite disappointing for me, but the girls did the job in the end and I’m very proud to be part of this team,” Lobo said.

Lobo’s opportunity comes this weekend thought when they take on APIA Leichhardt.

“However, having the opportunity to be able to partake in this year’s grand final is something I’m truly grateful for and can’t wait for a great match on Saturday.

“I’m very excited and nervous, because it’s always a good battle against APIA and we’re keen to complete the three-peat.”

With the best defence in the league, Lobo and captain Madison McComasky have been a wall in the backline for the Rams.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a good team and a great bunch of girls,” said Lobo.

“Everybody has played a key role in helping me be better. Playing alongside Madison (Macca) has been a great experience and learning for me. Her experience and maturity as a player has helped me both on and off the field especially when it comes to pressure situations.”

The Rams central defender knows that a tough game awaits them on Sunday afternoon.

“I think the grand final between APIA and us will definitely be a tough and exciting match.

“Both teams are eager to win the title for different reasons. We play different styles of football and it could well come down to being decided in the final minutes which will make it a great game for all.

“I expect APIA to turn up with a renewed determination to win the title, coming off the back of their hard fought semi-final win.

“As mentioned, they are a quality side who plays hard right till the end.”

Lobo is aware that APIA’s most dangerous players lie in their front line and will have her work cut out.

“APIA is a quality side who have a number of players with different strengths.

“I think strikers like Ash Crofts and Charlotte Lancaster are always a threat to the opposition, so it’s definitely something for us to factor into our plans.”
