It’s been a long time coming but one of NSW’s most decorated National Premier Leagues Women’s NSW coaches Stephen Peters will get his opportunity managing in the Liberty A-League after being announced as the new Perth Glory head coach for the next two seasons.
This will be the 40-year-old’s first head coaching role in the A-Leagues having enjoyed much success with the Macarthur Rams in NSW’s top tier NPL competition.
Peters famously guided the Rams to back-to-back NPL Women’s NSW Championships as well as taking out the NPL NSW Women’s Coach of the Year in 2023.
“What drew me to the role is the opportunity to coach at the highest level in the country,” he said.
“What better place to start than with Perth Glory, a club with a great sense of community and history.
“I’m really excited by what lies ahead for our squad and the club in general.”
Peters has called Macarthur home since 2021, having started his coaching career with Gladesville Ravens before landing his first head coaching role via North West Sydney Koalas FC.
After a Championship, he moved to Blacktown Spartans where he worked across both junior teams and the first-grade side.
In 2018, Peters guided Football NSW’s Under-15 Women’s state team to the 2018 FFA National Youth Championship.
Under Peters guidance the Rams have been one of the best teams in the NPL Women’s NSW competition as they currently hunt for yet more silverware in season 2024.
Peters becomes one of a number of coaches that have made the jump from the NPL Women’s NSW competition to Australia’s national competition with Sydney FC’s Ante Juric and Central Coast Mariners’ Emily Husband just some of the managers that have come through via the state’s NPL system.
