NPL Women’s NSW Flavour hits Matildas Olympics squad
As many as eleven Australian female football stars have featured in the National Premier Leagues Women’s NSW competition before their Matildas selection for the 2024 Paris Olympics on Tuesday.
In a massive coup for the nation’s elite NPL competition for women’s football the likes of Paris Olympic bound stars such as vice-skipper Elle Carpenter, Kyra Cooney-Cross, Mary Fowler, Michelle Heyman, Clare Hunt, Alanna Kennedy, Kaitlyn Torpey, Cortnee Vine, Clare Wheeler and reserves Courtney Nevin and Charlotte Grant have all taken part in the prestigious league at some stage during their careers.
We can’t forget ace striker Caitlin Foord, who although never played in the league, was born and bred in NSW.
Football NSW CEO John Tsatsimas was proud to see so many household names grace their presence in the NPL Women’s NSW competition that continues to grow from strength to strength.
“The fact that we have seen the majority of the Matildas Olympics squad develop and or take part in our coveted National Premier Leagues Women’s competition at some stage of their careers speaks highly of how good this league is for the game in not just NSW but Australia.
“We are always proud to see our talented footballers develop and represent the nation at any level but to have as many as 11 is brilliant to see.
“We’d like to wish Tony and the team the best of luck as we will all be watching and supporting the girls to victory.”
Following on from this list, there are sure to be many more talents who are currently playing in the NPL Women’s NSW competition, just waiting for their opportunity to shine on the international stage with new names set to grace the green and gold for years to come.
