Stingrays on the hunt for finals football success in 2024

It’s been a long time between drinks since the Illawarra Stingrays have taken part in finals football however the South Coast club is hoping 2024 is the year they’ll see more success as the National Premier Leagues Women’s NSW competition kick’s off in early March.

Steve Gordon returns for 2024 as the head coach of the Stingrays and will look to continue their strong second half of the season form they showed in 2023, only losing two games in that period and finishing the year undefeated in five seeing them place just outside finals football.

That change of fortune coincided with the rise of Japanese star Sakura Nojima who will line up in the Stingrays pink once more.

Nojima will have support in another Japanese ace as Ami Dekimura has also put pen to paper with the South Coast side.

The Stingrays focus is always on their local catchment and this season will be no different as we will once more see ever-present faces in Danika Matos, Caitlin Cooper, Chloe Middleton, Sasha Grove and Alex Mackenzie.

Two players to keep an eye on also are youngsters Adelaide Thompson and Ella Giles who have come through the club’s whole production line, starting at GSAP level.

The Stingrays open their campaign at Macedonia Park on Sunday, 3rd March against the Champions Macarthur Rams.
