Rams take care of Olympic

Macarthur Rams got back to winning ways in round 23 of the NPL NSW Women’s competition with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Sydney Olympic.

Miku Sunaga gave the home team an early lead before second half strikes via India Breier and Kelli Brown rounded off the scoring.

The impact of the victory was massive for Stephen Peters’ team as they now sit only one point behind ladder leaders APIA Leichhardt with three games to go.

Macarthur wasted no time in putting the foot down as they have most of the season, taking the lead after only five minutes.

Forcing a turnover, space appeared for India Breier down the left with Sunaga playing in a delightful ball through, as the left winger let fly with a powerful effort, calling Courtney Newbon into action.

The Olympic keeper could only palm the shot into the path of the on-rushing Sunaga who put the ball into the back of the net.

Macarthur continued to press the visitors and almost doubled the lead as Sunaga’s effort from the right hit the top of the cross bar.

Relentless going forward, the Rams again made space down the left, this time Breier cutting back for Kelli Brown who forced Newbon into a smart save at the near post.

Beth Gordon was next to sting the palms of Newbon with an excellent shot from distance on the turn.

After a number of consecutive corners, Olympic managed to hold on until the break, going into the sheds only one goal down.

George Beltsos made a few changes at the break but it didn’t change much as Macarthur continued the onslaught.

It took only six minutes in the second half for the Rams to double their advantage.

Breier took the ball in a central position, shaped to shoot on the left, before cutting on the right and sending a pin point effort into Newbon’s bottom corner.

It should have been three moments later as Brown took advantage of a defensive error, again Newbon standing tall to make a fine fingertip save.

Macarthur finally settled the points late on as there was a bit of Deja vu in the air.

Much like her strike the week before, Brown lined up a free kick and almost put a hole in the net with another thunderous effort, Newbon unable to do anything about the strike.

Olympic had the opportunity to score a late consolation but substitute Kiara De Domizio’s effort was well saved by Sham Khamis.
